Black Salt Aka Witch's Salt

Black Salt or Witch's Salt is created differently by each Witch I have ever met, but the basic steps remain the same. For me, I start off by burning protective herbs in a cast iron cauldron while asking the element of fire to keep the magickal and protective properties of the herbs in the charred remnants.After everything has burned and cooled down I then use a pestle in the cauldron to mash up everything into a fine black ash powder. I remove the ash and place it into a jar of 3 different types of salt. I scape out anything that has left a residue in my cauldron. Iron from the cauldron add another layer of protection for it has been said that Iron wards off evil. I then place the lid on the jar and shake it up. Why do I shake and not stir? I feel the movement awakens the sleeping protective energies and gives the salt a nice energetic kick. Its then that it is ready for use.
